{"id":135,"date":"2013-01-05T23:35:08","date_gmt":"2013-01-05T23:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meetdon.com\/?page_id=135"},"modified":"2016-08-04T22:01:41","modified_gmt":"2016-08-05T03:01:41","slug":"project09","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/meetdon.com\/?page_id=135","title":{"rendered":"Join Captain Hook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Date:\u00a0 Tuesday, May 21, 2013<br \/>\nHost Club: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taleweavers.org\" target=\"_blank\">Tale Weavers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the book &#8220;Peter and Wendy&#8221; (better known as &#8220;Peter Pan&#8221;), Captain Hook tried unsuccessfully to encourage the\u00a0Lost Boys to join his crew.\u00a0 He threatened the boys by giving them a choice:\u00a0Join Captain Hook, or walk the plank!\u00a0\u00a0When the boys\u00a0decided to\u00a0walk the plank, all I could think is how poor Captain Hook&#8217;s\u00a0persuasion skills are.\u00a0 In this speech, I use the softer skills of selling.\u00a0 No threats!\u00a0\u00a0Well, maybe only if the grammar is poor!<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xmtpgMin2bk?rel=0\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h1><b>About Project #09 \u2013 Persuade with Power<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>To have influence in life, persuasion is a skill that a person must have.\u00a0 The objective of this speech is to persuade listeners by appealing to their interests, and lead them to adopting the speaker\u2019s viewpoints and\/or call them to take action.<\/p>\n<h1><b>Specifics \u2013 <\/b><\/h1>\n<h5>Word of Day: Expeditious<\/h5>\n<h5>Speech Time Limit: 5-7 Minutes<\/h5>\n<h5>Actual Speech time: 7:17<\/h5>\n<h1><b>Evaluation Notes \u2013 <\/b><\/h1>\n<p>It is often difficult for a newer member to give an evaluation that is both encouraging and helpful to the speaker.\u00a0 At the time that the video was taken, Ron had been a member with us for about 6 months.\u00a0 The improvements he has made with his public speaking skills is incredible.\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t leave me with anything to improve upon, but there were quite a few things that he liked:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Usage of pirate vernacular with common day expressions (ex, Planking, &#8220;What&#8217;s in Your Wallet?&#8221;, Booty and Boody)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The costume<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The persuasiveness of the speech<\/p>\n<h1><b>Personal Comments &#8211;<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>My favorite comment that came back to me was from the General Evaluator: &#8220;I wasn&#8217;t crazy about the idea of becoming a mother to the Lost Boys, but then you said,\u00a0&#8216;I could tell them where to go&#8217;, and then I was persuaded.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not the kind of man who really enjoys wearing costumes, but I will admit this was quite fun.\u00a0 When I went hunting for a costume, this speech wasn&#8217;t even written.\u00a0 When I first put on that costume to try it on, the speech started to come together in my head.\u00a0 I also noticed that once I rented it, brought it home, and started practicing the speech, the speech also became easier to deliver.\u00a0\u00a0It feels good that I don&#8217;t always have to be myself!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Do you have any comments, suggestions, or improvements about the speech?
