{"id":96,"date":"2013-01-05T22:29:51","date_gmt":"2013-01-05T22:29:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meetdon.com\/?page_id=96"},"modified":"2016-08-04T21:57:16","modified_gmt":"2016-08-05T02:57:16","slug":"project01","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/meetdon.com\/?page_id=96","title":{"rendered":"Hello, My Name is Peter!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Completion Date: Tuesday, October 16, 2012<br \/>\nHost Club: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taleweavers.org\" target=\"_blank\">Tale Weavers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rather than doing a speech about myself, I decided to do this speech as if I was Peter Pan giving his first manual speech!\u00a0 It was fun to pretend to be him, as I explained what life was like in Neverland, what it was like not growing up, and the conflicts he had with Captain Hook.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RdYTZmZH1sY?rel=0\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h1>About Project <b>#01 \u2013 Ice Breaker<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>The objective of this speech project is to just get a person up and speaking in front of an audience.\u00a0 To make it easy for a person to get up and do it, this project is based on a subject that everyone knows well: themselves!\u00a0 It\u2019s very common for people to say that they couldn\u2019t make it to 4 minutes talking about themselves; only to find out they exceed 6 minutes!<\/p>\n<h1><b>Specifics \u2013 <\/b><\/h1>\n<h5>Word of Day:\u00a0 Draggle<\/h5>\n<h5>Speech Time Limit: 4-6 Minutes<\/h5>\n<h5>Actual Speech time: 4:33<\/h5>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<h1><b>Evaluation Notes \u2013 <\/b><\/h1>\n<p>Dave found the speech to be enjoyable, in character, and believable.\u00a0 A few points of improvement are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The handling of the notes could have been smoother. There is nothing wrong with using notes, just that the plan for using them could have been improved.<\/li>\n<li>The speech could have used a little more energy to add excitement and be more kid-like.<\/li>\n<li>Better to use the vernacular of the 1904 time period. The modern slang just did not fit well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><b>Personal Comments &#8211;<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>I certainly agree with the evaluation.\u00a0 After\u00a0reviewing the speech\u00a0myself, I noticed that I used a lot of slang, even though I intended not to use any.\u00a0 In fact, there were a few points I meant to make that were in my notes, but forgot to mention them in the speech.<\/p>\n<p>Two big errors I noticed were:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I called it &#8220;Never Never Land&#8221;, instead of &#8220;Neverland&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>The directions to Neverland\u00a0are &#8220;2nd star to the right, straight on till MORNING&#8221; &#8211; not midnight.\u00a0 If you stop at midnight, like I suggested, you would still be walking distance from your home.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Do you have any comments, suggestions, or improvements about the speech?
